Preview: Movement in Depth
You will find an example of a cinematic movement in depth in the opening scene of The Shining. The recording is shot from a helicopter and takes you straight into the story. Start the video (The Shining, Opening scene). In the same film we see a similar movement. This time the camera is following the boy through the spooky hallways of the hotel. Start video (The Shining, Hallway scene).
Preview: Camera Movement and Brain
As a result of certain zoom and travel shots, after effects can appear as a consequence of fixing the eyes on a certain spot. This is called: motion after effect. An illustration of this effect is found in the next video (Motion after effect). During the movement, point your eyes at the central cross. When the movement stops it seems that the Buddha comes forward and that your eyes are zooming in. In the next commercial for a magic-bra, the motion after effect is even stronger.
